Territorial Acknowledgment

St George’s Cadboro Bay respectfully acknowledges the land we stand and pray on. The soil here holds the history and footsteps of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. On the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, we uphold the hopeful and healing spirit of reconciliation. We promise to walk with truth and love in those footprints that connect and ground us.

AGM

Request for Reports

Our AGM is fast approaching on Sunday, February 23rd. If you are the leader/chair of a parish group, you should have gotten an email from Amanda requesting your report for the AGM. These reports are due to Amanda by Friday January 31st.

Men's Breakfast

Men's Breakfast

Saturday, January 18th @ 8:30am

At our January 18th breakfast, Colin Tessier from Threshold Housing will be giving a presentation about Threshold Housing.

Threshold Housing opens doors for youth and prevents adult homelessness. Threshold serves youth at-risk-of or experiencing homelessness, aging out of care, or fleeing violence in the home. These young adults need a place to call home and people who believe in them. Threshold meets those needs by offering safe housing, community and support to help youth make heal, learn, grow and create brighter futures.

If you plan on attending, RSVP Bruce Winter @ labs4ever@gmail.com.

Parish Buildings and Grounds Conversation

Parish Buildings and Grounds Conversation

Wednesday, January 29th @ 2pm

A Parish conversation on our Buildings and Grounds will be held at 2PM on Wednesday 29 January, as a follow-up to the discussion started at the Moving with the Winds of God retreat in November. All are welcome. Parishioners are encouraged to review the Parish Depreciation Report HERE and Bishop Anna's letter on the proposed sale of St. Dunstan's land HERE prior to the meeting. This is the beginning of a Parish conversation on this topic. Those who are unable to attend this discussion should note that there will be further opportunities for your involvement.

Lunch Date

Lunch Date

Plan to participate in St. George's first "Lunch Dates" on Sundays February 2nd & 9th, 12noon - 2pm!

Friendship often starts by sharing a meal. Here's an opportunity for you to sign up to be a host or a guest for lunch after church. We’ll match you up with friends, old and new! Our part is to sort through all the details and your part is to enjoy lunch together. Feel free to join in one day or both, as guest or host.

CLICK HERE for the sign-up forms. Put your filled-out form(s) in the box in the narthex or drop at the office by Tuesday, January 28. Details will be emailed to you on the Friday before your lunch date. Any questions, call Marilyn Isaak at 604-308-0634.

Pepper's gives back!

Pepper's gives back!

Thank you to everyone who has been using Pepper's gift cards to buy their groceries. Pepper's donates 5% of all gift card purchases to local schools and churches. It's as easy as specifying our church when buying your gift card. St. George's has received $12,564.50 over the last 10 years! (Which is 10.6% of their community givings!)

See Amanda in the office if you would like to obtain a Pepper's gift card and help support the church in this way.

THANK YOU!

THANK YOU!

Your Social Justice and Outreach Team [SJOT] thank you for your support through 2024. On a monthly basis we will continue to feature worthy agencies in your 2025 Setting Sail.

  • We have continued to be a strong supporter of the Shelbourne Community Kitchen with weekly grocery donations filling a car trunk for delivery (pictured above).
  • Our December collection of clothing for Cool Aid was greatly appreciated by the staff that day, as they noted knitted hats, new socks and warm jackets for their clients (pictured below).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • Through the Purdy Chocolate purchases we were able to donate $789.47 to the Back Pack Buddies agency that delivers bags of food to thousands of BC’s most vulnerable children.
  • The Refugee Fund request was embraced in true St George’s style as we raised $13,420. The apple pie fund raiser was a big part of that at $1,835!
This will enable the Refugee group, on behalf of St George’s, to continue to support Ruth and Tesfalem for the required full year.
Thank you, St George’s community for all the support!
