Territorial Acknowledgment

St George’s Cadboro Bay respectfully acknowledges the land we stand and pray on. The soil here holds the history and footsteps of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. On the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, we uphold the hopeful and healing spirit of reconciliation. We promise to walk with truth and love in those footprints that connect and ground us.

Gratitude

Gratitude

It takes a village

So many people work hard in ministry all the time here at St. George's. This is the case even more for Holy Week & Easter. Many thanks to:

- Fran and the choir for the beautiful and uplifting music

- Darlene and the Chancel guild for making ready all the "holy hardware"

- All those who provided and arranged flowers or otherwise worked to beautify our worship space

- Gary and others who are always available to move stuff around

- Sheila, Signi, Joy W and the rest of the team who provide such great hospitality, particularly with dinner on Maundy Thursday.

- All the readers, intercessors, greeters, counters, administrants, and assistants for taking responsiblity for part of our worship life

All your efforts are much appreciated! Happy Easter!

Updating our liturgical practice

Updating our liturgical practice

Making our voice count

St George's is one of five parishes in our diocese selected to test some proposed revisions to the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL) for the Canadian Church. The RCL is the cycle of Scripture readings assigned for use on Sundays, shared by many Christian denominations the world-over. It has been in use in its current form since 1992. In recent years, two questions have emerged about the RCL’s use of the Book of Acts. The first is whether our current practice of substituting a reading from Acts for one from the Old Testament during the 50 days of Easter is appropriate? The second is, if we do away with the readings from Acts during Easter season, how will we ensure that the Church actually has a chance to hear these stories? What we are testing on behalf of the Church is a set of Old Testament readings to be used during Easter (instead of Acts), and a set of readings from Acts to be tested after Trinity Sunday (instead of the readings from St Paul which are currently assigned).

We have a small group paying close attention to these changes, and welcome feedback from any member of the parish. Please contact Christine (incumbent@stgeorgecadborobay.ca) with any questions or comments.

GVAT Presents: Communities of Care-Listening Action

Thursday, May 8th - 7-9pm

Things are looking tough right now. Greater Victorians are facing an extractive housing market, collapsing climate, lack of access to healthcare, financial insecurity and more. All of this can feel overwhelming against the backdrop of capitalism, colonialism, threats to our national sovereignty, and genocide we see every day in the news and online. But we have a plan to build power to change the world, and it starts with you.

Join Greater Victoria Acting Together (GVAT) and allies for a night of storytelling, community building, and creating a common narrative. In times of intersecting and multiplying crises, building communities of care to weather the storm is essential.
