Territorial Acknowledgment
St George’s Cadboro Bay respectfully acknowledges the land we stand and pray on. The soil here holds the history and footsteps of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. On the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, we uphold the hopeful and healing spirit of reconciliation. We promise to walk with truth and love in those footprints that connect and ground us. |

October Book Study
For 3 Wednesdays in October, we will discuss Brian McLaren's new book Do I Stay Christian? A Guide for the Doubters, the Disappointed, and the Disillusioned. The book delves into contemporary Christian identity, combining "his own experience with that of thousands of people who have confided in him over the years to help readers make a responsible, honest, ethical decision about their religious identity." He offers 10 reasons to decide "no"; 10 reasons to decide "yes"; and then turns to wonder about "how?" "Whatever we decide... how can we do so in a good, honest, and loving way?" How are we going to live? Each session will include a video introduction and time for discussion. Oct 5: Introduction & Part 1 - "No" Oct 12: Part 2 - "Yes" Oct 19: Part 3 - "How?" We will meet in-person at 10am (coffee available). You are welcome join without reading the book, to see what it's all about! Watch for an evening zoom option in the coming months. Pick up the book you ordered at the church office. A few extras are still available for purchase ($35), and there is still time for you to get one for yourself, in whatever format you prefer (e-book, audio, hard copy). |

Bring food donations this Sunday!
We just received an absolutely astronomic donation from The BC Thanksgiving Food Drive. This month we are hoping to focus on Potatoes and Onions. They are a staple of our pantry and eats up a large part of our budget so we are hoping your amazing community can focus on these items. If folks are looking the best place to buy these items I would suggest Old Farm Market in Oak Bay or the Wholesale Club in Esquimalt. They selling in sizes from 5-50lbs pounds and will be the least expensive if people are looking to buy larger amounts. Thank you so much for your continued support! In gratitude for your donations that are given to those in need. With thanks from your SJOT members! |
