Territorial Acknowledgment

St George’s Cadboro Bay respectfully acknowledges the land we stand and pray on. The soil here holds the history and footsteps of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. On the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, we uphold the hopeful and healing spirit of reconciliation. We promise to walk with truth and love in those footprints that connect and ground us.

ReconciliAction Cadboro Bay

A Collaborative initiative

We are excited to be part of a new collaborative community effort forming in Cadboro Bay focused on our relationship with our Indigeneous neighbours.

ReconciliAction Cadboro Bay is modeling itself after a similar group in Oak Bay (information HERE). We're also already talking about how the 2 communities can work together, perhaps with an event to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation September 30. Stay tuned for more information!

This coming Tuesday, June 27 at 6pm, ReconciliAction Cadboro Bay is meeting here at St. George's. All are welcome to attend, alongside other organizations in our neighbourhood.

June Outreach: Shekinah Homes Society

June Outreach: Shekinah Homes Society

Your Social Justice and Outreach Team ask for your prayers and donations for this much needed local community programme. Please explore their website www.shekinahhomes.org for more information.

“Shekinah”, when translated has a few meanings, all of which help paint the picture of who we are – a safe dwelling for people and spirit..."

“Shekinah Homes Society is a non-profit community of people residing in Victoria, British Columbia on Canada’s idyllic west coast. We provide a home and family environment to adults with a diverse spectrum of disabilities. We envision a way of life where ALL people are given the opportunity to love, learn, work and play. We are an inclusive community where the worth and unique value of each person is honored and celebrated. Our mission is to build a community life for adults with a diverse spectrum of disabilities, their families, and other community members – to create positive social change, enabling each person to be a respected and valued member of community and society and in turn, open a world of incredible opportunities.

Our community members enjoy the warmth and closeness of home life, where they can grow old in a familiar place – their home. Additionally, being a part of the Shekinah family gives everyone a chance to develop friendships that last a lifetime.”

It will include a link to the Respectful Conduct Policy along with a form to sign acknowledging that you have read the policy.

This is form will only need to be completed once, unlike Safe Church which requires renewal every five years. If you do not receive an email from Leslie, you are off the hook and don’t need to review the policy or sign the form.

Reflections by Herbert O'Driscoll

Reflections by Herbert O'Driscoll

Greetings all,

Here is something that I treasure as a spiritual gift. I think it a wonderful example of someone who has managed to weave the events of their life into a coherent whole which becomes their spirituality….

“Having been through the experience of conversion in my youth, then through the joyful and painful process of raising a family; through the trying time of our church defending human rights in the midst of oppressive regimes, through the experience of prison with all the uncertainties of an oppressive regime, through the uprooting experience of exile, through the valley of the shadow of death for five months with the terminal sickness of my companion of thirty six years, and more recently through the changes of a new ministry in a new country, and finally through the restoring experience of a new marriage and the healing power of love and hope - I believe I have at least a pretaste of the power of the resurrection - the power of hope and new beginnings.” Mortimer Aries, Bishop (Meth) in Bolivia.  Afterwards teaching in Bolivia.

Blessings,

Herb

A Christianity to Call Home

A Christianity to Call Home

Summer @ Sorrento

August 6-12 (Week 5)

Recent census data reveals that over half of the population in BC identify as ‘no religion.’ People who have spent some or all of their life in Christianity feel less and less at home there. For 60 years, many have imagined that Christianity isn’t so much dying as going through a once in an epoch shift.

Join Bp Anna and Rev Christine for a week of theological exploration towards A Christianity to Call Home. We’ll revisit some of the progressive theological texts of the 20th century (Religionless Christianity, Secular City, Honest to God, Comfortable Pew) to see what they have to say to us 60 years later. We’ll also tune into some of the theological voices of our own age (Richard Rohr, Ilia Delio, James Smith, Christina Cleveland, Kate Bowler and others) to see what new life-giving theology is emerging in these turbulent 2020s.

Reconciliation Theatre and Langham Court Comedy

Reconciliation Theatre and Langham Court Comedy

1 July 2023 - Thursday, June 29, 2023

Reconciliation Theatre Society (R.T.S.) is excited to announce our current tour of mid-island indigenous nations has been extended to Victoria’s Langham Court Theatre, on traditional Songhees and Esquimalt territory. The Berlin Blues left audiences laughing from Qualicum to Quwutsun before its successful run on Snuneymuxw territory during May. RTS is excited to enter into a co-production with Langham Court Theatre to perform in Victoria from June 29 – July 2.

Drew Hayden Taylor’s cutting wit and insight into life on-reserve is the perfect compliment to Canada Day weekend. Drew Hayden Taylor’s knee-slapping comedy takes a hilarious look at life in a fictional Anishinaabe community when a German corporation comes to build a multi-million dollar indigenous-themed amusement park. The scheme promises Otter Lake financial self-sufficiency, but brings as many questions as it does opportunities for the residents of a rural reserve turned tourist attraction. One of Turtle Island’s most prolific playwrights, Drew Hayden Taylor delivers comedy on a theme of economic development and cultural appropriation, and exposes Canadian audiences to “rez humour” from a distinctly indigenous perspective.

Tickets for the production June 29- July 2 will be available through the Langham
Court Theatre box office.

Say Yes! to Kids 2023

Say Yes! to Kids 2023

Thursday, June 22, 2023

Say Yes! to Kids (SYTK) is a nationwide effort to create a sustainable, abundant source of funding for youth-focused initiatives across the Anglican Church of Canada.

Since it was launched in 2021, SYTK has provided over $625,000 to more than 100 unique beneficiaries and fundraising partners in support of youth-focused ministry and outreach from coast to coast to coast. All SYTK projects are different, but they share a common goal: to imagine more and to put that imagination into action to grow a brighter future for young people, today.

The Anglican Foundation of Canada invites all Canadian Anglicans to join the SYTK movement and give generously to one of this year’s fundraising teams. By helping to make young people a priority, you are energizing the church and growing a brighter future for young people, today.
