Territorial Acknowledgment

St George’s Cadboro Bay respectfully acknowledges the land we stand and pray on. The soil here holds the history and footsteps of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. On the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, we uphold the hopeful and healing spirit of reconciliation. We promise to walk with truth and love in those footprints that connect and ground us.

Thank You to Holden Prayer Helpers

A huge thank you to all who helped make our summer Holden Prayer and BBQs possible! We hosted four sessions over the summer months, and the attendance grew over each session. St George's rose to the occasion!  St George's parishioners, the Inclusive Christians UVic group, friends, and neighbors prayed and broke bread together.

Celebrating Leslie on the occasion of her ordination!

Party and gift

We look forward to celebrating Leslie and the occasion of her ordination to the sacred order of deacon. She has done much hard work, in her studies, in this parish of  St. George and beyond, to get to this moment.

If you would like to contribute to a gift and purse for Leslie, we will collect cash in the office. You can also donate online here [need to create option and put link], ensuring you click on "gift for Leslie." As this type of gift is not tax-receiptable, please don't include it as part of your regular envelope giving.

We will have a reception for Leslie after church on Sunday, September 17.

 PWRDF - New Program

PWRDF - New Program

Mapping the Ground We Stand On

As part of its commitment to support the findings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund has developed a program called, Mapping the Ground We Stand On. This interactive workshop known as the Mapping Exercise invites participants to explore the Indigenous presence on the map of Canada, the history of Settlers arrival, and their relationship to one another.  It also offers an opportunity for learning and reflection on the concept of Terra Nullius or “empty land” and the Doctrine of Discovery as foundational to colonialism (of which the residential schools were one aspect). Participants will walk on the map, reflect on their own presence on it, and discuss how they might respond to what they have learned.

Our Diocesan PWRDF team has invited John and Nacy Denham, PWRDF facilitators, to present this workshop in each of our four regions.

Workshops will be held on:

September 7 at St George the Martyr, Cadboro Bay

September 8 at St Mary, Parish of Central Saanich, Saanichton

September 9 at St Paul Nanaimo; Sep 11 at St Peter, Campbell River.

All workshops will be held 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

There is limited space, so registration is required. To register, or for more information, please contact Lynn Schumacher at pwrdf@bc.anglican.ca.

Note: The above can be used as a bulletin insert advertising the event.
