Territorial Acknowledgment
St George’s Cadboro Bay respectfully acknowledges the land we stand and pray on. The soil here holds the history and footsteps of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. On the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, we uphold the hopeful and healing spirit of reconciliation. We promise to walk with truth and love in those footprints that connect and ground us. |

What are your thoughts about St. George’s future Music Leadership?
Your Search Team for finding our next music director began its work on Tuesday (9th). Before we go too much further, we want to give all St. George’s parishioners the chance to contribute their hopes and wisdom to our process. We’d like to hear from any of you who worship with us, singing and listening, and wish to add your thoughts. What do you treasure about the music in our worship? What do you hope for in our music ministry after our amazing and unique Marlon has gone? We plan to move ahead with an open and efficient process, so we would ask for your responses by April 30. If you are able to email, please send to admin@stgeorgecadborobay.ca. If you prefer, you can hand a paper copy to any of the Search Team: Rev Christine Conkin, Moira Millar, Signi Murgatroyd, Peter Parker, Bruce Winter, Judy Trueman. You can choose to remain anonymous if you wish. Together, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we will continue on into the future “making a joyful noise to the Lord.” |
Community Storytelling and Art Event: Raven Brings the Light
Please join us at Oak Bay United Church as we celebrate Earth Day 2024 through the telling of the Indigenous tale Raven Brings the Light. The story, which originated over 3,000 years ago, is a traditional story of the peoples of the Northwest Coast of BC. It will be recounted by Robert (Lucky) Budd, a gifted oral storyteller, who collaborates with renowned Indigenous artist Roy Henry Vickers to preserve traditional stories and share them with people of all ages. Admission: by donation to cover costs and to support Reconciliation and Climate work. No pre-registration necessary. Time: 2pm on Saturday April 20th. Doors open at 1: 45 and will close at 4pm. Location: Storytelling will take place upstairs in the Oak Bay United Church sanctuary. This is an elevator-accessible space. Following the story and a question period with Lucky, we'll move downstairs to the Community Hall for refreshments and art-making. https://www.oakbayunitedchurch.ca/events/raven-brings-the-light |

Looking for Work Experience
To St George’s Parishioners… This young man from Ukraine is looking for work in the neighborhood where he has been involved productively in gardening and odd jobs. He is currently living with his mother on Mt Tolmie (father is unable to leave Ukraine). Sasha is trying hard to establish some viable work experience in Canada to assist in his application for Canadian residency. We understand that he has been paid between $20.00 - $30.00 / hour for his work to date for local residents. Can you help ? If so please see contact information below. April Outreach: Victoria Women's Transition House Society
During the month of April please join your Social Justice and Outreach Team by focusing your prayers and support towards this worthy agency: Since 1974 Victoria Women’s Transition House has been supporting and advocating for women as they move forward with their lives after experiencing intimate partner violence. Affordable housing for women fleeing intimate partner violence is an essential component of a comprehensive response to domestic violence and a critical step in supporting survivors on their path to safety and independence. Women, especially single mothers and women leaving violence, are hardest hit by Capital Regional District housing crisis. Safe, affordable housing is critical to women’s safety and wellbeing. Programs and support services have been developed from a trauma-informed perspective, to fill the needs we see in our community: Crisis & Information Line, Emergency Shelter, Counselling Services, Children’s Programmes, 50+ Programme, Homelessness Prevention Programme, Outreach Programmes & Groups, Regional Domestic Violence Unit, Spousal Assault Victim Support, Family Law Advocacy, Community Education, Volunteer Programme.
