Territorial Acknowledgment
St George’s Cadboro Bay respectfully acknowledges the land we stand and pray on. The soil here holds the history and footsteps of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. On the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, we uphold the hopeful and healing spirit of reconciliation. We promise to walk with truth and love in those footprints that connect and ground us. |

Lent 2024: “Where did all the young people go?”Wednesday, February 28, 2024 For decades we’ve been wondering and worrying about our young people leaving our beloved church. For 4 Wednesday mornings this Lent, join Bp Anna and Rev Christine to explore the social, spiritual, religious and theological movements of the late 20th century. What happened in the wake of the great optimism of the 1960’s? Why haven’t any of the many approaches we’ve tried to engage young people over the decades worked in the long term? And finally, what are some of the emerging ideas and practices of 21st century Christianity and beyond? Where might we go from here? Dates: Wed. Feb 28, March 6, 13, 20 Time: 9:45am - Coffee and light snacks; 10:00-11:30am program To access the Zoom event, click here. Join us for this contemporary, sung service of evening prayer, followed by a community meal beginning around 5:30pm. All are welcome to the service, meal, or both. The simple dinner menus are thoughtfully prepared by our Hospitality Team. If you would like to contribute to the meal, you may consider bringing a salad or a dessert. Please coordinate with Signi (signi@telus.net) to ensure that we may expect and plan to include your contribution. There is no expectation of monetary contribution as we do this through our “Community Events” offerings. For more infomation visit: http://stgeorgecadborobay.ca/events/holden-prayer/2024-02-21

Community Events FundFood. Fun. Friends. More food. From Shrove Tuesday pancakes (Feb 13), through weekly Wednesday night community dinners, and on to Maundy Thursday (March 28) when we commemorate the Last Supper, we have 7 different opportunities to eat together.
"How do we pay for all that?!?" You wonder?
Last year we initiated a funding model for our social and community events within and beyond the parish whereby we ask you to contribute to our "Community Events Fund" with a tax-receiptable gift. You may do so once per year, or on an on-going basis. This can be done by indicating so on your regular envelope or cheque, by using the "Community Events" envelopes (please include your regular envelope number) or online through the "donate" button on the website (please choose "Community Events" tab).
This approach allows us to offer generous hospitality to all who come through the doors and frees us from focusing our events on fundraising. Please invite your friends and neighbours to join us anytime, without asking for a little cash out of their pockets.
We are grateful for your presence and participation at St. George's, and we look forward to sharing a meal together.

Sage is saying goodbye
Our administrator, Sage, will be moving to England at the beginning of May. As such, his last day as administrator at St George's will be 30 April. We wish Sage the best on this new chapter of his life! From Sage: Thanks to all at St George's for this lovely year. I've learned a lot and had a wonderful time. Special thanks to Christine for making a great working environment :) |
Holy Week servicesPalm Sunday, March 24 to Easter Sunday, March 31 The holiest week in the Christian year takes us from the excitement and joy of Jesus’ glorious entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday (March 24), through the story of Jesus’ passion, culminating with Easter on Sunday, March 31. We walk with Jesus in the Way of God through it all, step by step. Palm Sunday (March 24) at 8:00am & 10:00am - Our worship includes a palm procession and anointing for comfort and strength, in preparation for the difficult journey ahead. Wednesday in Holy Week (March 27) at 5:00pm - We gather "in the garden" to reflect and pray with Jesus and one another, through a sung service of evening prayer (Holden). Please note there is no dinner provided tonight. Maundy Thursday (March 28) at 6:00pm - We remember Jesus' commandment to love one another with story, foot-washing and a simple, shared dinner. Good Friday (March 29) at 11:00am - We meditate on the cross of Christ, reflecting on the injustice of the world and the grief we share. Easter Sunday (March 31) at 8:00am & 10:00am - We celebrate the surprising new life that comes with resurrection. |
