Territorial Acknowledgment
St George’s Cadboro Bay respectfully acknowledges the land we stand and pray on. The soil here holds the history and footsteps of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. On the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, we uphold the hopeful and healing spirit of reconciliation. We promise to walk with truth and love in those footprints that connect and ground us. |

GratitudeTransition in role of Verger Ed Collis has been our faithful and dedicated verger for more than 20 years! Primarily a behind-the-scenes role, the verger ensures the worship space is set up and cleaned up not only for Sunday services, but also "extraordinary" ones, like funerals and weddings. Ed's quiet and loving presence, particularly for pastoral services, including placing memorial bricks on our Walk of Remembrance, has meant that the parish operates smoothly and with well taken-care-of space. The time has come for us to express our immense gratitude for Ed's ministry as verger for so many years, and to release him from that particular responsibility. Ed remains an active and valuable member of the parish, so we are not saying goodbye! We are simply saying a huge THANK YOU for the immense contribution Ed has made to the life and ministry of St. George's. We are also grateful to Gary Fisher for taking up the role of verger. Gary has been training with Ed for a few months now and is growing into the huge shoes Ed leaves. Image: Niklas Ohlrogge |

Centering PrayerMonday, September 9, 2024 Join us for a moment of Centering Prayer in the Lady Chapel on Mondays at 4pm. Our Centering Prayer group meets every week. Each meeting opens with a short reading, followed by a chant or prayer. We then practice 20 minutes of silence as an opportunity to move into profound silence which creates a spiritual space to rest in God. After the 20 minutes, the practice is closed by saying The Grace. Image: Nishta Sharma |

The 4 Gospels: A Book ClubWonderful Wednesdays are back this fall! We hear a Gospel passage every Sunday. We worship our way through the story of Jesus each year. We don't often read the whole of Jesus' story, however, as told in the 4 canonical Gospels. How is the story of Jesus unique in each of the gospels? What passages are less familiar? How does reading a gospel like we would any other story impact our understanding or experience of Jesus? Beginning Wednesday, September 11, then continuing every other Wednesday, you are invited to join in conversation about each of the canonical Gospels. This will be a time of discussion, not presentation. Please read the "Gospel of the day" in its entirety, per the schedule below, and join in the discussion, as you might for any other book club. September 11: Mark September 25: Matthew October 9: Luke Octorber 23: John 9:45am - coffee, tea and snacks 10am - discussion |

Safe Church trainingSundays: September 15 & 22 The Safe Church program provides training to both clergy and lay volunteers to ensure our churches are places of safety from the harm of misconduct that can occur in situations when there is an imbalance of power. All employees and most volunteers in the diocese must complete Safe Church training every five years. Parishioners who must now complete this in-person hour-long training are being contacted directly. If you are not on the ‘must’ list but would like to review the training or are just curious, you are very welcome to attend either on September 15 or on September 22 in the Narthex after coffee following the 10 am service. You will watch a 35-minute video and then fill in a couple of forms, one of which is an authorisation for a mandatory Police Information Check (Criminal Records Review). To register or for more information, please email Jeanette Muzio at safechurch@stgeorgecadborobay.ca |
