Territorial Acknowledgment

St George’s Cadboro Bay respectfully acknowledges the land we stand and pray on. The soil here holds the history and footsteps of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. On the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, we uphold the hopeful and healing spirit of reconciliation. We promise to walk with truth and love in those footprints that connect and ground us.

St. George's will be involved with the reception following the service.

Safe Church training

Safe Church training

Sunday September 22

The Safe Church program provides training to both clergy and lay volunteers to ensure our churches are places of safety from the harm of misconduct that can occur in situations when there is an imbalance of power. All employees and most volunteers in the diocese must complete Safe Church training every five years.

Parishioners who must now complete this in-person hour-long training are being contacted directly. If you are not on the ‘must’ list but would like to review the training or are just curious, you are very welcome to attend either on September 22 in the Narthex after coffee following the 10 am service. You will watch a 35-minute video and then fill in a couple of forms, one of which is an authorisation for a mandatory Police Information Check (Criminal Records Review).

To register or for more information, please email Jeanette Muzio at safechurch@stgeorgecadborobay.ca

The 4 Gospels: A Book Club

The 4 Gospels: A Book Club

Wonderful Wednesdays are back this fall!

We hear a Gospel passage every Sunday. We worship our way through the story of Jesus each year. We don't often read the whole of Jesus' story, however, as told in the 4 canonical Gospels. How is the story of Jesus unique in each of the gospels? What passages are less familiar? How does reading a gospel like we would any other story impact our understanding or experience of Jesus?

You are invited to join in conversation about each of the canonical Gospels, every other Wednesday. This will be a time of discussion, not presentation. Please read the "Gospel of the day" in its entirety, per the schedule below, and join in the discussion, as you might for any other book club.

NEXT UP: Matthew - September 25

October 9: Luke

Octorber 23: John

9:45am - coffee, tea and snacks

10am - discussion

Men's Breakfast

Men's Breakfast

Saturday, September 28, 2024

The Men's breakfast that takes place the third Saturday of each month will instead be on September 28th.

If you plan on attending, RSVP Bruce Winter @ labs4ever@gmail.com so we can be sure to prepare enough food.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Local Events

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is nearly upon us. As a diocese we have a responsibility to repent and mourn our role in and benefit from the dispossession of land, lifeways and culture. On this day we remember the Survivors and generational Survivors of the residential schools on these islands and inlets.

You're encouraged to join local nations in remembering and in celebrating the resistance and revitalization that is taking place.

Exciting Update from the Refugee Group

Today is the day!

The refugee group are excited to announce we have an official arrival date and time for our young refugee couple travelling from Addis Ababa to Victoria! Their suite near the University has been given a refresh, and their kitchen is stocked!

We would like to give thanks for all the prayers, love, and support that have sustained us all over the 5, yes 5 years, as Ruth, Tesfalem and family have been waiting for this day!

We will be there at midnight to greet them at the airport, as they arrive at their new home!

Please hold Ruth and Tesfalem in your prayers as they journey to arrive TODAY!

Jazz Evensong @ St Mary's

Sunday, September 22, 2024 at 4pm - 1701 Elgin Road

Join St Mary’s for a unique blend of exceptional jazz rooted in the context of meditation and prayer. Music provided by the Shanna Dance Quartet, honouring Ella Fitzgerald. All are welcome!

A collection will be taken in support of this ongoing series. Suggested donation $20.

The service of Evensong is an opportunity to put the events of the past day into perspective, to ground one’s body, mind and spirit in preparation for the restorative night of sleep; when in our dreaming, our subconscious will continue the creative work of making sense of our experiences.

Taizé Prayer at St Philip Oak Bay

Taizé Prayer at St Philip Oak Bay

4th Thursdays of the month at 7pm

All are welcome to St Philip Oak Bay for a candlelit service of song, silence, and contemplation, in the style of the Taizé Community. The first will be September 26.

Location: St Philip Anglican Church, 2928 Eastdowne Rd (at Neil)

Calling experienced singers: Judith Slimmon (our music director for Taizé Prayer) and the existing Taizé ensemble at St Philip would like to invite you to join them in singing this beautiful, prayerful SATB music.  It is helpful if you can sight-read music and hold one part while others are singing different parts.  They are easy melodies to learn.  There will be one or two rehearsals prior to the September service and one rehearsal before each of the following services.  All parts are welcome!  Contact Judith via the parish office admin@stphilipvictoria.ca or call 250-592-6823.
