Territorial Acknowledgment
St George’s Cadboro Bay respectfully acknowledges the land we stand and pray on. The soil here holds the history and footsteps of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. On the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, we uphold the hopeful and healing spirit of reconciliation. We promise to walk with truth and love in those footprints that connect and ground us. |

September Outreach- Together Against Poverty Society- T.A.P.S
Together Against Poverty Society: T.A.P.S. St George’s Social Justice and Outreach Team has chosen to support this worthy agency during the month of September. Your donations via Tithe.ly or the regular blue envelopes will help local people during these stressful and difficult times.Together Against Poverty Society (TAPS) is the largest anti-poverty organization on Vancouver Island. Established in 1989, TAPS is a recognized leader and resource for citizens, community groups, and social agencies attempting to reduce poverty, serving over 7,000 residents of Greater Victoria, adjacent municipalities, and the Southern Gulf Islands each year... and we still cannot meet the needs of all who approach us. ·At TAPS, we believe that the causes of poverty are in the social, economic and political institutions of our society – not the failings of the individual. Through legal advocacy and public education, we have a positive impact on people’s lives in ways that honour and promote human rights, justice, and a healthy, sustainable community. TAPS is a non-profit society whose membership is open to individuals or groups concerned with the preservation of civil society, social justice, the eradication of poverty, as well as the continuing moral progress of those ideals.TAPS advocates help people in the Victoria area with matters that involve any of the following: -Provincial disability (PWD) applications & appeals -Income assistance (welfare) -Employment standards disputes -Residential tenancy disputes -Income tax for low-income earners Click Here to find out more about this month’s agency through the website from which this information has been taken. |

Bring food donations this Sunday!
Your Social Justice and Outreach Team would like to thank you for your regular food donations to the Shelbourne Community Kitchen. They have been placed at the Altar every Sunday through the Summer and these donations were received weekly with grace and gratitude at the Kitchen. As September is upon us, the Kitchen is now asking the Churches that have regularly donated to take on one food item this month and the attached picture is their request for St Georges Anglican Church. Below are a few words from our contact, Tyler; “Instead of the normal Top 5 most needed items this month I would like to encourage each Church to focus on one particular item in an effort to stock up our pantry with our most requested non-perishable items before we head into the winter months. Donations throughout the summer have helped keep non perishable items on our shelves during a time where the rest our donations stop almost entirely and for that I can't thank you all enough!” So let us consider September, Baked Bean month and see how many cans SJOT members can carry weekly to the Kitchen! In gratitude for your donations that are given to those in need. With thanks from your SJOT members! |

October Book Study
For 3 Wednesdays in October, we will discuss Brian McLaren's new book Do I Stay Christian? A Guide for the Doubters, the Disappointed, and the Disillusioned. The book delves into contemporary Christian identity, combining "his own experience with that of thousands of people who have confided in him over the years to help readers make a responsible, honest, ethical decision about their religious identity." He offers 10 reasons to decide "no"; 10 reasons to decide "yes"; and then turns to wonder about "how?" "Whatever we decide... how can we do so in a good, honest, and loving way?" How are we going to live? Each session will include a video introduction and time for discussion. Oct 5: Introduction & Part 1 - "No" Oct 12: Part 2 - "Yes" Oct 19: Part 3 - "How?" Please indicate your preference for 10am and/or 7pm time with the parish office (admin@stgeorgecadborobay.ca). Get your book order in by Sept. 19 ($35), or you are welcome to get the book yourself, in whatever format you prefer. |
