Territorial Acknowledgment
St George’s Cadboro Bay respectfully acknowledges the land we stand and pray on. The soil here holds the history and footsteps of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. On the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, we uphold the hopeful and healing spirit of reconciliation. We promise to walk with truth and love in those footprints that connect and ground us. |

A Christianity to Call HomeSummer @ Sorrento August 6-12 (Week 5) Recent census data reveals that over half of the population in BC identify as ‘no religion.’ People who have spent some or all of their life in Christianity feel less and less at home there. For 60 years, many have imagined that Christianity isn’t so much dying as going through a once in an epoch shift. Join Bp Anna and Rev Christine for a week of theological exploration towards A Christianity to Call Home. We’ll revisit some of the progressive theological texts of the 20th century (Religionless Christianity, Secular City, Honest to God, Comfortable Pew) to see what they have to say to us 60 years later. We’ll also tune into some of the theological voices of our own age (Richard Rohr, Ilia Delio, James Smith, Christina Cleveland, Kate Bowler and others) to see what new life-giving theology is emerging in these turbulent 2020s. CLICK HERE for registration information for this and all of Sorrento programs. |

Running in the Spirit, RVM 5kJoin us for a community run! - Saturday, October 7, 2023 Join Running in the Spirit for the Royal Victoria Marathon 5k on Saturday, October 7, 9 AM start. Running in the Spirit is an ecumenical and multifaith running group based at Multifaith Centre UVic, supported by Inclusive Christians at UVic and local congregations. This is an opportunity to run with a group accepting of any running ability. Feel free to run/walk or fast walk the course. If you haven't run in awhile we will be offering some training runs to get people used to running shorter distances of 1-2 km and slowly working your way up. We can also help configure a training plan for you that you can do on your own schedule. Often it's being part of a supportive team and having a goal to stay motivated that helps staying focused. The 5k course time limit is 60 min. which is enough time for most runners and fast walkers. Register now to secure the lowest registration fee. Sometimes races sell out as the race date approaches. Registration link here: https://www.runvictoriamarathon.com/ When registering you can join our team by selecting "Running Groups" and "Running in the Spirit" when prompted to select a team name. Others will also be racing longer distances on Sunday, October 8, including the 8k, half marathon (21.1 km), and full marathon (42.2 km). However longer distances require proper training, especially the half and full marathons. The 5k is suitable for kids and adults with moderate fitness who can slowly run, walk/run, or fast walk for 5 km. Races include cut-off times, to honour road closures, aid stations, and volunteers supporting the course. We encourage people regardless of faith affiliation to join us for this community running opportunity! Contact Pr. Lyndon at pastorlyndon@shaw.ca for more info. Do you have a spare sweater or bottle of sunscreen?A Message From Threshold Ministries Dear St George's Anglican Church, The weather we are having in Victoria at the moment is beautiful isn’t it! I do hope you’re having a wonderful summer. Do you have a spare sweater or bottle of sunscreen feels like such a juxtaposition! But for people who are living their life on and around Pandora Avenue they are constantly exposed to the elements. They can’t get out of the sun during the day and they can’t escape the cold at night. As we chat to people on our weekly walk up and down Pandora Avenue we’re regularly being asked if we have any warm clothing. We hear how chilly it gets at night when your only shelter is a tent or worse no tent at all. However, we’re also seeing people who are sunburnt because there is little to no shelter from the sun during the day. So, I was wondering, do you have a spare sweater or bottle of sunscreen that you’d be willing to give to someone living their life on and around Pandora? I know every piece of clothing and every toiletry item is so gratefully received! If you do and would be willing to drop it off to me, please send me an email or give me a call and we’ll arrange a time. Thank you so much for your continued support! May the Lord bless you and keep you, C - 250.880.7077 deborah@thresholdministries.ca |
