Territorial Acknowledgment

St George’s Cadboro Bay respectfully acknowledges the land we stand and pray on. The soil here holds the history and footsteps of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. On the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, we uphold the hopeful and healing spirit of reconciliation. We promise to walk with truth and love in those footprints that connect and ground us.

Church Rear Door improvement

Church Rear Door improvement

To all church keyholders - Please note that we have upgraded the rear door of the church with a new lock mechanism. Have no fear, your key will still work! Please be mindful, however, that when you unlock the door, it stays unlocked.

SO, when you leave, you need to ensure you re-lock the door.

National Indigenous Peoples' Day

National Indigenous Peoples' Day

Journeying Together in Truth and Justice

On June 21, we mark National Indigenous Peoples' Day, a time to honour and celebrate the history, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across what is now Canada. This date, chosen to coincide with the summer solstice—a day of great spiritual significance for many Indigenous communities—offers us an opportunity to reflect on the richness of Indigenous traditions and the enduring strength of Indigenous peoples. We can also take a moment to acknowledge the ongoing work of healing and justice in our shared history.

As followers of Christ and members of the Anglican Church, we are called to walk the path of reconciliation, truth, and justice. Recognizing this day is a step in that journey. It reminds us of the deep injustices of the past and present, and invites us to listen, learn, and stand in solidarity with Indigenous peoples.

You can honour this day by attending a local Indigenous-led event, supporting Indigenous artists and businesses, reading the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, or learning more about the land you live on and the Indigenous nations who have stewarded it since time immemorial. Let us walk humbly, listen deeply, and act justly.

“What does the Lord require of you but to do
justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly
with your God?”
— Micah 6:8

A Prayer for the Day:
Creator God, we give thanks for the wisdom, resilience, and beauty of Indigenous peoples. Help us to walk together in reconciliation and hope. Open our hearts to truth, and guide us in building relationships rooted in justice, humility, and respect. May your Spirit lead us on paths of peace and understanding. Amen.

Alongside Hope - Gaza Relief

https://alongsidehope.org/news/al-ahli-hospital-sustains-palm-sunday-air-strikes/

Taken from the website of Alongside Hope:
”Alongside Hope (formerly PWRDF) continues to bring attention to the people of Gaza who suffer daily…where yet another attack occurred on the Al-Ahli Hospital. The attack comes after weeks of no medical aid or food being allowed into the besieged Gaza Strip.”

“The Diocese of Jerusalem is appalled at the bombing of the hospital now for the fifth time since the beginning of the war in 2023 – and this time on the morning of Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week. We call upon all governments and people of goodwill to intervene to stop all kinds of attacks on medical and humanitarian institutions. We pray and call for the end of this horrific war and the suffering of so many.”

During the month of June please join your Social Justice and Outreach Team [SJOT] by focusing your prayers and support for Alongside Hope, and in particular the Gaza Appeal.

Alongside Hope is part of an Anglican Alliance with grass roots agencies, and they continue to serve the most vulnerable people of this World. Donations can be made through St George’s Tithel.y or with the blue Outreach envelopes.

Shelbourne Community Kitchen: Summer Send Off Food Drive

Shelbourne Community Kitchen: Summer Send Off Food Drive

June 1-30, 2025

The Shelbourne Community Kitchen states: “Every summer, our organization sees an increase in families accessing our food support services, but this is also a time when supplies of non-perishable foods are at an all time low. As food costs continue to climb and as more people are seeking food support services, we are registering an average of 50 new participants every month.”

St George’s Outreach Team thanks you for your generous and ongoing support, and asks that you please share this information with your wider community. The Outreach Team will continue to collect your non-perishable donations after the weekly Sunday Service and deliver them to the Kitchen.

Summer Retreat with Bishop Anna & Christine!

Bishop Anna Greenwood-Lee and our very own incumbent Christine Conkin, will be hosting a week of intentional reflection at the Sorrento Centre this summer (July 27 - August 2). The week will explore and incarnate life-giving theology and practice in this turbulent decade.

How does our theology help or hinder us as we navigate the turbulence of our times? How do we hold fast in these chaotic and changing times? Together you'll look at some of the theological voices of our time and explore their insights to dig into some of the issues of our day.
