Territorial Acknowledgment
St George’s Cadboro Bay respectfully acknowledges the land we stand and pray on. The soil here holds the history and footsteps of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. On the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, we uphold the hopeful and healing spirit of reconciliation. We promise to walk with truth and love in those footprints that connect and ground us. |

ARC Town Hall Meeting February 4th and Parish Survey
The ARC (Asset Review Committee for a Sustainable Future), invites all members of the St. George's community to attend a Town Hall meeting following the 10AM service on Sunday, February 4th. (You can also attend online as the 10AM service ZOOM service will be extended to include the meeting.) Brendon Neilson, Executive Director of our Diocese, will be our guest preacher at both the 8AM and 10AM services. Mr. Neilson will speak briefly on the broad Diocesan context and processes with regard to use of church assets. The ARC team will give an update on its activities to date and outline the next steps of our work. There will be time for input, questions and opinions from the congregation as well. All are welcome to attend! For a refresher on ARC-related documents and resources, please visit https://www.stgeorgecadborobay.ca/ministries--1/asset-review-committee Also, be on the lookout for a brief survey from the ARC, which will be emailed to parishioners on February 4th (Paper copies will also be available.). In this anonymous survey, we will be seeking input from the parish on future options. Next planned steps will be a report from ARC on its work (which would include the results of the survey), followed by a vote at the church's February 25th Annual Vestry Meeting on which of the 3 broad options we, as a church, should pursue. |

Marlon to retire later this year
We heard from Marlon last Sunday, with sadness, that he is resigning from his position as Music Director at St. George's Church, effective August 26, 2024. In his letter, he wrote: "I have given much thought and consideration to my decision. While I immensely enjoyed my stay at St. George's, I believe this is the right time for me to take the opportunity to lay the foundations for what could be the last phase of my musical career, the return to musical performances... I am forever grateful for the congregation who have treated me as family since I joined the church. I am also blessed and thankful for the opportunity to work with a devoted and talented choir and with the music ministry as a whole and I am proud fo the progress we have made together... It has been an honour and privilege to have contributed my musical talents to this church. Thank you again for twelve wonderful years of serving with you and for all the beautiful memories I will carry with me all my life." We are so grateful for the many great gifts Marlon has shared with us over the years, and we will miss him tremendously. Over the coming months, we will celebrate Marlon's ministry with us and begin work on next steps. |

Lent 2024: “Where did all the young people go?”Wednesday, February 28, 2024 For decades we’ve been wondering and worrying about our young people leaving our beloved church. For 4 Wednesday mornings this Lent, join Bp Anna and Rev Christine to explore the social, spiritual, religious and theological movements of the late 20th century. What happened in the wake of the great optimism of the 1960’s? Why haven’t any of the many approaches we’ve tried to engage young people over the decades worked in the long term? And finally, what are some of the emerging ideas and practices of 21st century Christianity and beyond? Where might we go from here? Dates: Wed. Feb 28, March 6, 13, 20 Time: 9:45am - Coffee and light snacks; 10:00-11:30am program Zoom option available. Joint Appeal for GazaFrom Archbishops Hosam and Justin Welby In the media over these past few weeks, we have watched the ongoing armed-conflict between the Hamas-led Palestinian militant groups and Israel from afar. Archbishop Justin Welby (the Archbishop of Canterbury) paid a solidarity visit to Jerusalem this past weekend in the aftermath of the conflict erupting, and immediately following the bombing of (the Anglican) Ahli Hospital in Gaza. Together with Archbishop Hosam Elias Naoum (Bishop Coadjutor of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem) these two Archbishops have issued a Joint Appeal Letter, calling for prayers and donations not only for the hospital's vital work in Gaza, but also for the ministries throughout the Holy Land which are also being greatly affected by the war. To that end, please find attached a joint appeal letter. There is also a situation update and a recent photograph of the two Archbishops in front of St. George's Cathedral. Anglicans around the world have been asked to disseminate the appeal letter with their photograph as widely as possible. The PWRDF is also appealing for support of the hospital in Gaza. To learn more, CLICK HERE. Thank you for passing along this information and for your prayers and support. We continue to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and for security for all who dwell in its lands. For more infomation visit:
