Welcome to the ARC

The ARC comprising John Oldale, Marilyn Pattison, Leslie Glazier, Jennifer Handley and Gary Fisher has begun its work and would like to share the following broad outline of what we plan to accomplish: · gather together all relevant information and research that could help inform Parish/stakeholder input. This includes: o understanding Parish vision and values o reviewing our current assets (buildings and land) o collecting demographic data and trends for Parish and "community" identifying potential future project support agencies (Diocese, Wiser Projects, etc.) and what they could offer.

At our Annual Vestry Meeting on February 25th, the Parish strongly approved the ARC's motion to pursue "Option 3", which was to further discuss and explore possible future site development on our property.  Since this approval meant that the work of the ARC was effectively completed, you may be wondering what has happened since.

First, St. George's has been selected by the Diocese as one of several partners in a Diocesan-led application for federal (CMHC) seed funding of background engineering work (geotechnical surveys and the like) required before any potential redevelopment could be contemplated.  As per Diocesan instruction, the Parish has nominated two individuals to sit on an initial, joint Diocese/Wiser Projects/Parish "project team" to start the ball rolling should the funding application succeed. The two Parish individuals are John Oldale and Gary Fisher.  Our application has been submitted and we await word on whether it will be approved.

Second, Parish Council has authorized completion of a Depreciation Report of the Church building, office/hall complex and grounds.  A Depreciation Report is an engineering assessment of the condition of infrastructure components (windows, heating systems, etc.) and provides estimates on when such items should be replaced or undergo major renovation, and provides an estimate of the cost of such work.  Depreciation Reports are used by many organizations (Stratas, churches, business, etc.) to plan future major maintenance actions, both from an engineering and a financial perspective.  The inspection portion of the Depreciation Report was completed by Morrison Hershfield engineers on 17 April.  We expect/hope to get their final report in June. The results of this effort will be used to inform decisions on the future viability of the office/hall complex and to plan necessary repairs for the Church.

In the Asset Review Committee survey, several people offered to volunteer their time and efforts to help forward any future development.  Leadership thanks those individuals and notes that we haven't forgotten.  As efforts progress, you may be called upon to help.

Functions of the Asset Review Committee for a Sustainable Future  - November 2023

The ARC comprising John Oldale, Marilyn Pattison, Leslie Glazier, Jennifer Handley and Gary Fisher has begun its work and would like to share the following broad outline of what we plan to accomplish:

  • gather together all relevant information and research that could help inform Parish/stakeholder input. This includes:
    • understanding Parish vision and values
    • reviewing our current assets (buildings and land)
    • collecting demographic data and trends for Parish and "community"
    • identifying potential future project support agencies (Diocese, Wiser Projects, etc.) and what they could offer
  • ascertain the wishes of the St. George's community with respect to "3 broad options" for future use of our assets (buildings and land).  This could be done via information sessions, surveys and "Town Hall" consultations
  • maintain open and clear communication throughout the process via regular updates through Setting Sail and other means
  • write a final report outlining the Committee's work and findings.  The ARC plans to complete its work within 4 - 6 months
  • NOTE:  It is NOT within the mandate of the Committee to decide upon on a particular future option, nor to consider what (if any) type of facility might be built.
  • KEEP IN TOUCH WITH THE ARC!  Any questions or comments?  If so, please email them to arc@stgeorgecadborobay.ca and a member of the committee will get back to you.
