St. George’s would be pleased to discuss baptism with you. We are delighted to welcome children and their families into the fellowship of the Church. We also rejoice when teenagers or adults commit their lives to Christ through Baptism. The sacrament of Holy Baptism marks the beginning of the Christian journey. Baptisms are celebrated in the context of the life of the community at the main liturgy on a number of given Sundays during the church year; generally, baptisms are conducted at the 10am Sunday service.

Who may be baptized?

People of all ages may be baptized: infants, children, and adults. As baptism is initiation into a community of faith where we grow and nurture our spiritual lives, we invite you to join in the pattern of Sunday worship for a time prior to baptism in order to become acquainted with the life, worship, and community of St. George’s.

Godparents / Sponsors

Value has always been placed on parents identifying other adults who can serve as spiritual mentors and guides for their children in their formation and years beyond. It is a sacred trust and an honour. Given the mobility of contemporary life, parents today are selecting either close personal friends or family members. In the event that a godparent(s) cannot be present for the baptism, they will still receive a certificate signifying their commitment and role in the child’s life. Godparents do not need to be Anglican Christians but are expected to be baptized and practicing Christians.

What if I were baptized in another church?

The Anglican Church of Canada welcomes all those who have been baptized with water in the name of the Holy Trinity in any Christian tradition to receive Holy Communion at the Eucharist. Baptism is not repeatable and no further initiation rite is necessary.
