Territorial Acknowledgment
St George’s Cadboro Bay respectfully acknowledges the land we stand and pray on. The soil here holds the history and footsteps of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. On the traditional territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, we uphold the hopeful and healing spirit of reconciliation. We promise to walk with truth and love in those footprints that connect and ground us. |

AGM Official Notice
Sunday, February 25, 2024 Please be advised that St. George Anglican Church's Annual General Meeting will be held in-person on Sunday, February 25th after the 10am service. The regular zoom link will also remain open so you can participate that way as well. All active members of the parish are welcome and invited to vote. **This is a great opportunity to ensure you are on the parish list (if you're newer to the parish and want to be able to vote)! Please contact Sage to add your contact details to the list. |
Community Events FundFood. Fun. Friends. More food.
FUN FACT: Beginning next week, for the next SEVEN (7) weeks, you can have dinner at St. George's once a week!!!
From Shrove Tuesday pancakes (Feb 13), through weekly Wednesday night community dinners, and on to Maundy Thursday (March 28) when we commemorate the Last Supper, we have 7 different opportunities to eat together.
"How do we pay for all that?!?" You wonder?
Last year we initiated a funding model for our social and community events within and beyond the parish whereby we ask you to contribute to our "Community Events Fund" with a tax-receiptable gift. You may do so once per year, or on an on-going basis. This can be done by indicating so on your regular envelope or cheque, by using the "Community Events" envelopes (please include your regular envelope number) or online through the "donate" button on the website (please choose "Community Events" tab).
This approach allows us to offer generous hospitality to all who come through the doors and frees us from focusing our events on fundraising. Please invite your friends and neighbours to join us anytime, without asking for a little cash out of their pockets.
We are grateful for your presence and participation at St. George's, and we look forward to sharing a meal together.

Sunday Rostered MinistriesNew schedule coming soon! Our worship practice is based on the Greek term "leitourgia," which means "public work for the common good," or more simply "the work of the people." Liturgy is fundamentally a communal act. Worship is a "team sport"! There are numerous ways for you to be involved in "Sunday Ministries," at both 8am and 10am services, as: Greeters. Intercessors. Readers. Administrants. Offertory Supervisors. Counters. Healing Prayer Ministers. Liturgical Assistants. Technical Assistants. A manual with descriptions of each role is available by clicking below. The roster is ably 'constructed' by Gary and Darlene Fisher every few months, with the next schedule (beginning in March) in process now. Please contact them, or Christine, for further information and/or to get on the schedule! Maybe now is the time to try something new? Darlene: darbyfish50@gmail.com Gary: gcfisher1962@gmail.com |

The simple dinner menus are thoughtfully prepared by our Hospitality Team. If you would like to contribute to the meal, you may consider bringing a salad or a dessert. Please coordinate with Signi (signi@telus.net) to ensure that we may expect and plan to include your contribution. Lent 2024: “Where did all the young people go?”Wednesday, February 28, 2024 For decades we’ve been wondering and worrying about our young people leaving our beloved church. For 4 Wednesday mornings this Lent, join Bp Anna and Rev Christine to explore the social, spiritual, religious and theological movements of the late 20th century. What happened in the wake of the great optimism of the 1960’s? Why haven’t any of the many approaches we’ve tried to engage young people over the decades worked in the long term? And finally, what are some of the emerging ideas and practices of 21st century Christianity and beyond? Where might we go from here? Dates: Wed. Feb 28, March 6, 13, 20 Time: 9:45am - Coffee and light snacks; 10:00-11:30am program To access the Zoom event, click here. Request for Housing
The St. George’s Refugee Community has received the great news that the application for our Eritrean refugee Ruth Afeworki and her husband Tesfalem Asefa has finally been approved. After a fifty-four month wait fraught with domestic strife in Ethiopia, COVID and bureaucracy, we have been advised that they will be arriving within seven to twelve weeks. A blessing! With this in mind, we are now looking forward to helping to settle Ruth and Tesfalem in a new home in the Victoria area for March 31. Might you know of available housing? Could you reach out to your community connections? We are seeking accommodation in the greater Victoria area, close to bus routes and (ideally) close to Ruth’s brother and co-sponsor Ermias Afeworki, who lives in the North Park community. Please reach out to any member of the Refugee Committee (Jennifer Handley, John Sager, Ros Soares, David Stuart and Peter Rowand) if you have suggestions. As we prepare for their arrival, we’ll be reaching out to the community for contributions of household items, technology (computer and cell phone) and time - please stay posted! Thank-you for your support of this ministry! |
